There are many different types of dogs in the world. People keep them as pets for companionship or other reasons, whatever the cause is some still enjoy them. Dogs can also serve a purpose in communities like law enforcement (K9) and the military. “Military Working Dog Adoption Program, a 120-day program, run by the United States Air Force 341st Training Squadron, is tasked with training dogs to detect dangerous explosives” (DOD).
One example of a US Military dog is “Benny” one of the Military Working Dogs a part of the Air Force 673rd Security Forces Squadron who is trained vigorously with rough hours by his trainer.
After dogs are trained and deployed with their owners, they can also retire from the United States Armed Forces. People can adopt these dogs by “contacting officials at mwd.adoptions@us.af.mil or call 210-671-6766” (Military.com). However, by the time you adopt one of these dogs you will already be too late to see their younger years as they will be a fully grown dog from a puppy and already be bred into their full potential. However, especially in the military, more specifically the United States Air Force they use German Shepherd and the Belgian Shepherd Malinois which is only 2 species of dogs, which does not give you a variety of choices to pick as your “new” pet.
