WARNING: Mention of Abuse and Death of animals
In the past recent years there has been a rise of animal cruelty cases and even the worst we’ve ever seen yet in Singapore cases range from under feeding (leading to malnutrition) to physically beating and mud rearing animals. There have been consistent reports for years.
According to mothership SG, a credible news source in Singapore, reported that Pawky Pawly is one of the pet grooming local companies in Singapore. Last week, there was a TikTok live show where Pawky Pawly was showing grooming for the animals in the center. One of the owners of the animals they were taking care of, tuned in the TikTok live to see her dog was shivering and whining while still being wet for 18 minutes alone. This shows the lack of responsibility of these licensed grooming centers in Singapore. Even though the grooming center has put out their apologies for this incident, this will not be condoned for this irresponsible act done by them.
There was even a case on CNA news where a maid abused a dog to death, yet alone even hanged them on the balcony. The dog belonged to Heng’s boyfriend and was named BoyBoy. Heng’s boyfriend’s name was Lai and he adopted the dog with his previous girlfriend but still took care of the dog post breakup. This took place on November 28th of this year and this maid was thankfully sentenced to jail however 9 months of jail is not enough time for this type of crime.
The concern for animal welfare laws has resurfaced alongside an increase of animal abuse reports. The AVS (Animal Veterinary & Service) is reviewing the Animal and Birds Act that enforces the code of animal welfare to strengthen the protection and health for animals across the nation. This act was not only for the protection and health for animals but also for the regulation of ownership, breeding, and trading of animals to prevent overpopulation and illegal activities.
