Animal Cruelty in Singapore

Updated: Dec 5, 2024

Pet owners are enraged about animal cruelty cases within Singapore that clearly demonstrates a lack of responsibility from other pet owners.

Three cases of examples of pet owners and people who take the responsibility for other people’s animals showing cruelty in public.

According to Channel News Lydia Lam, Man left his 43 cats alone in Ang Mo Kio flat without food and water; 2 died. All of the cats were left in his flat alone without any food or water. Even within the flat, it already had poor living conditions. This clearly shows that it wasn’t an optimal living environment and barely humane for animals in general.  Furthermore, 2 cats died from stress and a heart attack.Even with all of this, the man clearly did not show any remorse for what he did since he was warned that he had to attend an animal and veterinary service meeting and he did not attend. Even with the man seeking a sentence of 2-4 weeks of jail time, he only complied to plead guilty if he had a lawyer by his side. The man was charged on Wednesday March 6th, 2024.

Additionally, a Dog found hanging from leash after being left alone at pet groomer; NParks investigating. In Singapore, this local case gone viral all over social media and people were enraged about it. This happened under the grooming center named Pawkins SG located in Serangoon Central and on this day, the groomers went on break with the dogs still leashed onto their leash while still on the high dog grooming table. One of the dogs,a corgi, then moved forward and was choking on the leash. Later the dog, Frankie, was found 30 minutes after his death. Imagine the other dogs that were in that room with him, looking at the dead dog, probably stressed and confused.  Pawkins SG claimed they were “distraught” and they felt very sad because they have taken care of Frankie for 2 years. Even with the groomers with required adequate training beforehand, are this irresponsible with the responsibility of people’s dogs and in no means this is acceptable.

The last piece of extremely shocking news that mentions a case where 'Disgustingly inappropriate behaviour': Dog training firm suspends staff who pushed, hit animals. This company is called Xavian and Park and they’re responsible for walking people’s animals around local parks around Singapore. They were video publicly of employees hitting and pushing around the dogs to pose properly in order to get a good photo out of them. The people who are literally responsible for walking people’s dogs were hitting and pushing the dogs. All of this, so that they can properly look good for the photos they wanted to take of the dogs.

All of this clearly shows examples of how people are so irresponsible and these actions are unacceptable, even when people are supposed to be experts at taking care of other people’s animals. They are supposed to be licensed but this clearly shows that the license or not clearly means nothing.
