The Jalan Besar project aims to support the food distribution process of Singapore’s local charity, Soup Kitchen. Soup Kitchen is a direct service project that feeds lower-income households in the Jalan Besar/Lavender Street area.
Who We Are 📸
Jalan Besar Project is a service club helping the local community near Lavender MRT. We assist elderly citizens living alone in a complex and often lack volunteers for delivering food and other items. With no other organization serving the area, we rely on a small team of six to seven people to deliver 200+ packets to various HDB blocks every Tuesday. We aim to involve SAS students in our initiative to make a greater impact on the community efficiently.

Our NSC is unique in its focus on the Jalan Besar region, where we serve immobilized elderly citizens who live without family nearby. Unlike other food drive-oriented service clubs, we offer an immersive experience for SAS students to engage with a diverse community and learn valuable life skills. Our work is not limited to food distribution but also includes hosting baking sessions, distributing sanitary products, and adapting to the community's needs. We are exploring the possibility of hosting workshops and performing sanitary work in the old HDB blocks to uplift the community's spirits.
